The biggest career mistake I made was to choose engineering after 2nd PUC. The only reason I took up engineering is because all my friends opted it as a career option. What followed was a chain of mistakes.

After mugging up textbooks for 4 years, I realized that I didn't want to take it up as a career, but I was offered a software developer role in a service oriented company and I got carried away. I took the job offer and worked there for 2 years and after hating the job, I finally decided to quit and shift to the Finance sector.

Currently I'm studying for the CFA exams and honestly I'm finding it a bit hard, but Finance interests me and I don't mind putting in an effort, because I know I will enjoy working as an accountant.

My advice to anyone who is confused about their career and don't know which field to choose, I suggest you take some time and find what you're interested in and only then decide a career for yourself. Because at the end, you'll be spending over 9hrs, every single day at work and if you dislike your work, you will not be content and happy with yourself. So make sure you choose a career that aligns with your interests.

Always choose domain of work in place of money you will be paid for the work.

This question itself is kind of irrelevant.
You will only know this after you start your professional career. It will depend on the type of domain you are working on.For some it might be tech/non tech category.

I don't think the question is irrelevant. Learning from others experiences is the best way to be prepared.

Well this may vary from person to person according to their experiences. But one of the major mistakes we commit is following the trend irrespective of the fact that we are actually good in that particular domain or not. Basically if one is good at calculations one is bound to go for engineering as others do... Real engineering is much more than mathematics . For eons we have been conditioned in a way that we are bound to opt for only certain field like engineering ,medical,MBA or CA .But today we have plethora of options available .We can explore a lot and finally opt for something where our interest fits well.

This is a very common question on internet and I'd suggest to read more and more answers. We should always try to  learn from other's mistakes.  Here are some common mistakes people usually make in their career.
1. Value money over work domain and work culture. They usually end up in frustration and depression.
2. Devaluing their own principles.
3. Lacking self confidence
4. Stop learning.

For me ,it was engineering...others may have different stories based on their experiences. But yes that's not the end. You can always learn from your mistakes to do something better in life. Most importantly what we can do is that stop being a part of the rat race. Pave our own way and things will fall in place sooner or later.
