I am assuming that you are a fresher, so if you are planning to begin your career in Data Science, then you need to clear your basic fundamentals first. You should have good knowledge of a programming language. Most preferable is python. You must have the knowledge of list, NumPy, data frame operations. As these modules are the core to perform any operations.

If you are good in these concepts then you can move to the data visualization part. How to create visuals for your data sets and all. As a beginner, you can start your journey by learning these concepts. But there is a long way to become a data scientist. I have attached one blog link below. Firstly you need basic idea of Data Science and the concepts involved in it, you need to start working on attaining different skills in order to gain expertise in Data Science such as:

• Programming Skills:
  • Python, R, Java, C, or Perl. A good hold of any of these coding languages will be very useful.
• Knowledge of Hadoop:
  • Hadoop is the most popular Big Data framework it is expected that you have a good understanding of it.
• SQL database:
  • SQL is the most common way of getting information from a database and updating it. Candidates need to know how to query in SQL since it is the most preferred language for RDBMS.
• MATLAB:
  • MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs written in other languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, Fortran, and Python.
• SPSS:
  • It is a software package used for interactive, or batched, statistical analysis
• SAS:
  • It is a statistical software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics, multivariate analysis, business intelligence, criminal-investigation, data management, and predictive analytics.

Having a decent knowledge of Java, Scala, Tableau, and MSExcel can gradually increase your efficiency in performing complex computations and build good quality visualizations.

In order to become a master in Data Science:

• Familiarize yourself about the real-world Data Science problems
• Participate in Data Science forums and competitions(eg. Kaggle)
• Regularly work on huge datasets
• Have a collaborative and interactive approach
• Practice every day and gain a definitive edge
