Can I ask my boss why my teammate got a higher salary and I didn t

Me and one of my teammates are pretty close, we joined the company at the same time and have been working together ever since. A few days ago, while we were talking, I got to know that he got a higher raise than I did. This has kept me bugging because we've been performing the same. Should I ask my boss about why he got a higher raise than me?

The rise in salary depends on different metrics and your boss decides these metrics. You might have considered few metrics and missed out a few that your boss has considered. I wouldn't suggest you ask your boss why your teammate got a higher salary and you didn't because there's a 96% chance that he won't answer to that and nevertheless it'll spoil your relation with your manager. Instead, you can tell him that you deserve a higher salary or ask him what you can do to get a higher salary without mentioning about your teammates salary.

Well saying so would give you a bad impression. Salary and hike depend on your work, but it's your right to ask your manager if you have actively taken part in the project or any tasks given like your friend or teammate. But don't try to point out the issue directly, instead ask for how your performance was, and his/her suggestions. It would then give an idea of what was the issue and then ask for it.
