How to react to negative comments in office? I had an embarassing moment in my office last week and i hear a lot of comments and gossip about me. What to do?

@Prachi, just focus on your work and don't let unwanted gossip distract you from your work. This is a very common thing in offices and if you react to such negative comments then you might get targeted by a few people and they talk more bad things about you. So just do your work with full commitment and ignore any other comments. But make sure you take criticism for good because that sometimes help you grow in your career.

Prachi, It's quite common to have embarrassing moments in a career either positive or negative. You need to walk away and not respond to the comments. The more you listen to those comments you get tempted to react or start an argument. Instead, clear out the misunderstanding to reduce the comments over time. Take negative comments in a positive way to not feel unnecessary tension, anger, etc.

The best thing to do is not react. Something embarrassing happened, people witnessed it, people talk about it. You can not control what people do, people love such things. Just ignore it. Take the comments lightly. Maybe crack a joke on yourself. This will help you lighten the situation and the people around you.

Here are some tips as to how you could use these negative comments for your success:

1. Own it and hone it. Accept the feedback and make any necessary changes.

2. Assume good intentions. Don’t automatically jump to the conclusion that the person criticizing you is “out to get you, Also remember that they’re criticizing your work, not you as a person.

3. Use negative comments as a chance to clarify expectations.

4. Treat negative feedback as an opportunity to bond with your superior, who can help you towards betterment.

5. Use this as an opportunity to find a mentor or strengthen your relationships with co-workers.

6. Think of this as a time for self-reflection.

7. Remember that all constructive feedback (even negative feedback) is a sign of interest and a sign that people want to help you do better

Hi @Prachi, never let others comments bother you. People are jobless and they will pass judgemental comments. Don't give them the opportunity to point at your work. If its too much to handle then you can always talk to the HR and sort things out.
