Tesla s Kubernetes dashboard hacked to run concurrency

I've heard that the attackers were using Tesla’s infrastructure resources to mine cryptocurrency. How did this happen?

There were main reasons for this,

  • Kubernetes dashboard had way too many privileges mostly because the cluster was running without RBAC.
  • The dashboard was exposed explicitly on the internet, this just made it very easy to be hacked.
