Puppet error Name or service not known

Question

telnet <puppet master's hostname> 8140

This command resulted in an error: 

error "Name or service not known."

What exactly is the issue? How to solve this error? I am using puppet enterprise 2019.1.

You get this error usually if agents can't reach the Puppet master.

In order to troubleshoot:

1. Verify that the Puppet master server is reachable at a DNS name your agents recognize.

2. Verify that the pe-puppetserver service is running.
