I was just wondering if it is possible to use Traefik as an Ingress controller? If yes how do I get it started?

You can create a traefik service something like this:

apiVersion: v1
kind: Service
metadata:
  name: traefik-service
  annotations:
    service.beta.kubernetes.io/aws-load-balancer-ssl-cert: "arn:aws:acm:REGION:ACCOUNTID:certificate/CERT-ID"
    service.beta.kubernetes.io/aws-load-balancer-backend-protocol: "http"
spec:
  type: LoadBalancer
  selector:
    app: traefik-service
    tier: proxy
  ports:
  - port: 443
    targetPort: 80
