What is the slaves file configuration in Hadoop

In my Hadoop cluster I have configured 1 node as master & 3 nodes as slave. The slave file which is residing on my master machine is as following:

master
slave-1
slave-2
slave-3

Now I am confused that the slaves files in my slave machines should have the same file or do I have to remove the master while placing it to slave machine?

The main idea behind is the master file is that it corresponds to the Secondary NameNode, whereas slaves file will correspond to TaskTracker/DataNode. So, basically in pseudo-distributed mode, master file will have localhost as hostname & iun distributed mode master file would contain the appropriate hostname.

The master and slave file should be present in master node and not on slave node. Go through this official documentation to understand clearly:
