namenode not running

when i execute command start-all.sh it does not start namenode
before this i did run hdfs namenode –format
at the end of this command output this line i get SHUTDOWN_MSG: Shutting down NameNode at pramod-virtual-machine/127.0.1.1

what am i doing wrong?
