I'm fairly new to Hadoop and Big Data Environment, so I wanted to know, is there any specific reason why Hadoop is so tightly bound to Linux environment and not windows?

As far as I can tell, using Hadoop doesn't require a whole lot of GUI's, that can be a reason.

Hadoop being a java application, can run on any JVM regardless of the Operating System. Earlier Hadoop had some issues on windows like 4-5 years back. But all those issues have been resolved.

You can use Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), which can run smoothly on windows.

Hope this answers your question.
