AWS stands for Amazon Web Services, it is a subsidiary of  Amazon.com and is a secure cloud services platform, offering compute , database storage services , delivering content and many other functionality to help scale up your business and all this is offered at very affordable rates.

Before telling you as what is AWS and what are the benefits provided by them let me give you a brief on what actually is Cloud!

Cloud computing is a model in which computing resource are available as a service.

Again just FYI cloud is not on clouds! Its all virtualization over physical data centers!

There are basically 3 categories in cloud computing:

  • SaaS (Software as a Service)

    • you can use the software without purchasing it. Eg. Google docs, Office 360

  • PaaS (Platform as a Service)

    • Build application without being worried about the infrastructure. Eg. Google App engine

  • IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)

    • Rent servers, storage from cloud provider. Eg AWS, Azure, GCP, Digital Ocean, Linode

Now telling you as what actually is AWS!

AWS offers IaaS and PaaS

Out of many services provided by AWS few of them can be seen as follows:-

1. Elasticity

add and remove capacity(processor & memory), whenever it is needed in the environment

2. Scalability

AWS provides auto scaling

3. On demand & Self Services

Again just FYI cloud is not unlimited. You can provision resources in cloud whenever needed without any human interaction. These are the few of the services.

I hope this would give you a brief idea on what is AWS and what are the things you could do using it.

Now why you should choose AWS and not any other cloud service I would ask you to have a look on what people think about it! Check the following link!
