DevOps Engineer approach to troubleshooting a slow server

When an application is running very slow in a server,

as a DevOps engineer, how should I troubleshoot??

If you have the monitoring system with metric/alert, check them to see any abnormal things about hardware and one part of the middleware. Then check the logging collection system which will help to track the rest of the middleware and software.
If you don't have the system monitoring and logging collection then you are not very good with DevOps.

I would first check which part of the process is taking long... I would have a look at the logs and find out the cause for the latency. In case of any issue with memory, i would ensure adequate amounts of space is available for it to run.
