I am asked for a user name and password when I connect to a CodeCommit repository from Windows. Why am I being asked for the password? I don't know the password. where do I get the password from?

This happens because of the built-in credential management system fro windows. You'll have to configure a few things. If you're using HTTPS with git credentials then probably your git credentials aren't stored in the system. Provide Git credentials and continue. You should not be prompted again.
