How to install Splunk on CentOS?

Follow these steps to install Splunk on CentOS:

$ groupadd splunk
$ useradd -d /opt/splunk -m -g splunk splunk
$ su - splunk
$ id
$ getconf LONG_BIT

Create a Splunk account and download the Splunk software from their official website.

$ tar -xvf splunk-6.4.0-f2c836328108-Linux-x86_64.tgz
$ cp -rp splunk/* /opt/splunk/
$ chown -R splunk: /opt/splunk/

Install Splunk

$ su - splunk
$ cd bin/
$ ./splunk start --accept-license

Access the web-page at http://localhost:8000
