Hey @findingbugs, there are two question of yours

1. What is a DB Instance?

A DB Instance in nothing but its environment consisting of the background process needed by the Database.

2. What is DB Instance of Amazon RDS?

You can take it as the building block of Amazon RDS. Here the instance is an isolated database environment running on Cloud. The memory is selected by selecting the DB instance class.

Hope this definition helps.
