How to divide a string in two parts

0 votes
There is a string in the format , "987-1234". I want this string to be divided in two parts :

String 1 - 987

String 2 - 1234

Basically I want the string to be split in two parts. One part should be the characters before '-' and another part will be characters after '-'. Also if the string is not in proper format  generate an error message.

String s="yourstring";
boolean flag = true;
for(int i=0;i<s.length();i++)
{
    if(s.charAt(i)=='-')
    {
        System.out.println(s.substring(0,i));
        System.out.println(s.substring(i+1));
        flag= false;
    }
}
     if(flag)
     {
         System.out.println("The string is not in proper format");
      }
