An Edge location is basically a small setup in different locations that provides low latency connectivity by providing static contents to be available from nearest location of the request. It is basically a Content Delivery Network setup to make the response faster by providing the response from edge location rather than actual physical location of servers.

Overall what happens is that the content are cached and used by CDN.

Edge locations serve requests for CloudFront and Route 53. CloudFront is a content delivery network, while Route 53 is a DNS service. Requests going to either one of these services will be routed to the nearest edge location automatically allowing low latency no matter where the end user is located.

  • AWS make use of Edge location to reach their users so as to reduce latency.
  • AWS has two or more available zones per region.
  • Each zone contains different data centers so as to manage traffic at particular region.
  • AWS resources reside at these regions.
  • Edge location is a location from where the end users access the service located at AWS.
  • Basically, it is a Content Delivery Network  used with AWS CloudFront and Route 53 Service and request sent to any of these service is directly connected to the nearest edge location.Related image

An Edge location is basically a small setup in different locations that provides low latency connectivity by providing static contents to be available from nearest location of the request. What happens is that instead of getting the information from the source it just routes to the nearest edge location and delivers the information reducing the latency. This way the access time is less and response is faster
