Determining the Dataset s behaviors

I'm a beginner in machine learning, I do not have a clear idea about determining the dataset behavior and selecting the best ML model for the dataset.

I need to know about,

 1) which kind of tools and technique can be used for determining the dataset behaviors before the selecting ML algorithm.    

2) which kind of tricks can we used to select the best ML algorithm for specific cases and how to practice it

Before creating an ML model, you should apply feature engineering concepts. You need to analyze which feature or rather say column is important for your model. Creating an ML model is not a big deal but it should work or predict properly.
