Skills of a Cryptologist

I have got 2 questions in mind for which I think the answer will be same. What skills should I have to become a Cryptologist/ What skills does a Cryptologist have?

• Knowledge of Computer architecture
• Knowledge of data structures and algorithms
• Mathematical knowledge (Excellent in Linear/matrix algebra and/or discrete mathematics)
• Excellence in Probability theory, information theory, complexity theory and number theory
• Programming languages like C, C++, Python, Java etc
• Deep knowledge in Cryptographical concepts (Encryption, Decryption, Hashing etc)

The key skills a Cryptologist should have are Good communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. And on the technical side, he/she will have to use/implement cryptic methods so the additional skills required are advanced computer skills, and knowledge of scientific, analytical, and programming software.

• Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
• Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively.
• Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
• Systems Analysis - Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
• Monitoring - Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

• Basic understanding of major programming languages, i.e.: C, C++, Java, and Python
• Strong math skills; discrete mathematics, linear, and/or matrix algebra
• Basic understanding of complexity theory, information theory, and number theory
• Knowledge in encryption, digital signatures, key exchange
• Symmetric Cryptography: knowledge of hash functions, message authentication codes, and symmetric encryption
• Skilled in algorithms and data structures
