Is standby node missing in Hadoop 1 0

I was comparing Hadoop 1.0 and Hadoop 2.0 as I recently shifted to Hadoop 2.0. I came across something called a standby namenode, Was this missing in Hadoop 1.0 or did I miss it?

Yes, Hadoop 1.0 didn't have standby namenode. It was introduced in Hadoop 2.0. Basically, standby namenode was introduced to solve the problem of Single Point of Failure (SPOC). So, standby namenode was basically to replace SPOC.
