Hey,

Technical support engineers help in resolving technical issues within different components of computer systems, such as software, hardware, and other network-related IT related problems. When a fresher joins as a support engineer, he/she learns various aspects of technology related problems let it be clearing doubts, meeting with clients, fixing problems. They are highly skilled after with few years of experience, but in a single domain

The average salary of a technical support engineer varies from 4 LPA to 9 LPA depending on the technology and company. So overall technical support engineers skill up in several domains depending on the project or work. A fresher as a support engineer would have a lot of growth and can later change to a different path as there are a number of technical jobs available to them.

So overall, I would say there is clear growth in your career depending on the tools ot technology you are specialized in for later career change

Although it's really hard to change your domain after working in tech support for a longer period of time. So it's always better to switch from tech support as early as you can. Giving technical assistance to others give you a detailed and sound knowledge of specific technology, but you can only do the troubleshooting for that technology. If asked to develop something from scratch you can't do that.
Very true , However its suggestive that as soon as you get the job as a support engineer for a specific technological area you should immediately start learning related development or further administrative studies to give you a better a opportunity to switch to that specific domain for example, learning cloud computing , systems administration, developer programs etc.

Wishing everyone a happy learning.

Technical support may give you a decent beginning pay however there is no future growth prospect as there is little advancement in this field. Besides , If you change organization your experience testament will be not for any use.You will profit by it on the off chance that you again are going to join as Tech support. This occupation profile isn't so much good. On the off chance that you have no different choices, at that point you may join however continue pursuing for other occupation profile in certain organizations.

All the best !!

Technical Support has a future but only the tech support field. You want to switch to other domains, your tech support experience is not considered. The best to grow in a company is start taking initiatives and switch to other domain and grow there.

As per my experience working as tech support for Microsoft 365 .

1) There is a lot of advancement into the technical support if you enjoy problem solving with daily interaction with the customers .

Depending on your project or technology either you could excel in a specific product or over all as a Jack of all.

2) If you are not enjoying and have different ambitions to pursue then possible domains for which you should start learning for your interest,  as at most it should not take more than 2 years and at least 2 certifications to give you a decent start.

Suggestive future domains to could be :- Cloud computing , System/Server Administrator , developers profile etc..

3) Most importantly , there should always be a smile on you face when you speak of what you did , what you are doing and what you are willing to pursue..

Well wishes and happy learning to everyone.....

The only person who spoke through experience here is Shubansh. Technical Support is the only organization within a company where you get to learn the entire product especially the functionality (breadth) and to a large degree the various ways the products will and can be used. This is a place where you are required to be a jack of all trades and if you have an inclination you can easily become an expert on one or more modules of the product.

The growth is exponential and is in your hands. If you are technically inclined, you grow as a Sales engineer, Solutions engineer, QA engineer, SW developer, DevOps, SRE, literally anything you want. Just pick up a skill and learn and grow from here. If you like people interaction and working with the customers the route would be CSM, AM, AE's and you are already talking to customers so nothing is stopping you from becoming a Product Manager either.

Support is a challenging role and you really have to be cut for it.
