the mysql-connector-net-8.0.15 install at server or at power bi client ?

I think in Power BI Desktop (on the client machine)

So, as is usually the case with online 'advice' the exceptions are the real area of interest.  People do not go looking for help if the thing just works ...

After your step 2 there was NO prompt to download the connector.  I already have many MySQL odbc connectors installed.  Excel understands how to do this correctly.  You offer a Queries and Connections option and then adjust the properties.

But a user is paralyzed if they do everything right and the application offers them no chance to change things.  All I get after choosing MySQL and hitting the Connect button is this uninformative and unautomated display:

Um, ok, thanks.  Like where do I do this?  The ODBC stuff is well installed.  This is not helpful.

What do you get when you click on learn more? I am sure you'll get a little more details about what additional components are required.
So, as mentioned, the ODBC stuff is well installed already.  The 'learn more' link only takes me to the Oracle MySQL connector download, which I have already done.  Just to be sure of course I uninstalled it, and reinstalled it.  And then I I rebooted my computer (ha ha).  Nope, that is not it.
You've installed the connector, that's perfect. Have you configured it?
