how to store images and videos on to HDFS

I am new to Hadoop and HDFS, I heard that HDFS can only store Text format data. I wish to store image and video files on to my HDFS. Is it possible? If yes, How is it possible and kindly drop down the steps for the same.

HDFS is capable to accept data in the form of image and video as well.

You required to write your customized InputFormat, OutputFormat and RecordReader in order to split them properly.
