As far I know statisticians usually have a lot of work experience. They usually start off with small analysts jobs and eventually grow. But also depends on the company and their requirements.

Work experience is not 100% compulsory for a Statisticians but most of the companies expect people to have experience and there are very few companies that hire people without experience. At least an internship or entry-level job experience is required.
