What are the applications of Azure application insights or log analytics?

I'm using APIM with Azure Functions, and I'd want to log requests. Which is better for you, application insights or log analytics?

Insights into Applications Application Insights is an Application Performance Management (APM) tool that you may use to monitor the performance of your application. It detects performance problems, offers analytic capabilities, and may assist you in understanding how people interact with your application.

For example, the Analytics exploration section is identical (same backend, same UX, same capabilities, just different data schema). The same goes for alerts. Some experiences are still unique (for instance, app experiences such as Application Map).
