How to pull from a Git repository through an HTTP proxy

I am new to Git. I want to pull from a Git repository through an HTTP proxy. How can I do that?

You can set the HTTP proxy that Git uses in the global configuration property http.proxy as shown below.

$ git config --global http.proxy http://proxy.mycompany:80
