I am trying to recon a web application and get as much as details as possible. I am trying to get information in different ways. From fingerprinting I got a list of directories. Can I find the technology name with this piece of information?

You can find the technology using recon tools but I am sure you want to do it in a different way only by the information found about the web application files. To answer your question, if you have found the files in these directories, then you can know the technology from the file extension. But if the directory name is all you got, then look for common directories of technology. For example:

  • servlet — Java servlets
  • pls — Oracle Application Server PL/SQL gateway
  • cfdocs or cfide — Cold Fusion
  • SilverStream — The SilverStream web server
  • WebObjects or {function}.woa — Apple WebObjects
  • rails — Ruby on Rails
