The most important and basic skill required to become a Security Auditor is Auditing Computer Applications because the job is all about auditing. Other skills required would be:

  • Knowledge of regulatory and industry data security standards
  • Operating Systems such as Windows, UNIX and Linux 
  •  Databases (MSSQL and ORACLE)
  • C, C++, C#, Java, python PHP programming languages
  • ACL, IDEA and/or similar software programs for data analysis
  • Fidelis, ArcSight, Niksun, Websense, ProofPoint, BlueCoat and/or similar auditing and network defense tools
  • Firewall and intrusion detection/prevention protocols

Hi Ram, following skills are required to become a Security Auditor:

  • Knowledge of current security standards including HIPAA, PCI, SOX, NIST, EU/Safe Harbor, GLBA and FFIEC

  • ISO, ITIL and COBIT frameworks

  • Operating systems including Windows, UNIX, and Linux

  • Database platforms such as MSSQL, Oracle and MySQL

  • C, C++, C#, Java, and PHP programming languages

  • Data analysis software such as ACL or IDEA

  • Network penetration and testing tools including Fidelis, ArcSight, Niksun, Websense, ProofPoint, and BlueCoat

  • Hardware and software firewalls and intrusion detection protocols

  • Extensive knowledge of data management and information security principles
  • Highly efficient at designing, developing and testing information security systems
  • Ability to design and monitor secured data management systems
  • Flexible to travel and work at clients' locations
  • Superior organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Windows, Linux, Oracle, SQL, Networks, Firewalls, Cloud computing.
