Certification is not completely needed as knowledge matters more than certification but most of the companies ask for a certification as one of the main requirements, so in such cases it might be needed. Its always better to be on the safer side and get a certification. A lot of e-learning companies provide certified courses.

Certification might not really matter if you have strong skill-set (and by this, I mean the ultimate level of skills). But certification plays an important role in your career. CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) is one such certification that would improve your profile majorly.

There's always confusion on whether Certifications are important or skills. Well, there is no right answer for this. It depends on the level of skills you have and the company that's hiring. Some companies don't care about certifications, they just need you to be good at what you do. Unless and until you are aiming for a job in a particular company, you can't decide whether certifications are important or skills. So, give equal importance to both.
