How to deploy kafka cluster on cloud

I am building a data pipeline and for that I want to depoly a Kafka cluster. I just want to know which is more efficient way to deploy it - using VM's or Kubernetes?

You can run kafka in both ways and it mostly depends upon your situation. You can also try and use existing kafka as a service offering. Anyway, both are preferred just look at what suits your situation most.
