How to find path of software installed in Linux?

Hi. I am trying to automate a software in Linux where I want it to start and stop automatically. I am using bash script to do this and for that I need to know the path of the software. I search in /usr/local/bin could not find it there. How to find the location?

There are multiple ways to find the location. Suppose the name of the software you want to find is exec, then you can try these:

  • type exec
  • whereis exec
  • which exec
