What are the modes in VI editor

I am new to linux and wanted to know the different types of modes in VI editor. Can anyone help me with the modes?

VI editor works basically on three modes, these can be termed as follows:

  1. Regular mode or command mode: view the file
  2. Insertion mode or edit mode: edit the file
  3. Replacement mode or Ex-mode: replace file, other physical changes.
