Why do Incident Responders get paid so much to take action only when an incident has occurred? Incidents happen rarely, but still, they get paid more. Why?

The average salary for Incident Responder ranges between $70,000 - $100,000 and for a Senior Incident Responder is between $90,000 - $ 180,000. The reason they get paid so much is that of the role they play. When incidents occur, they are the main people who stop the intrusion/vulnerability. They have to find how to stop it, find how to make the security better and find the root cause for it. Sometimes when incidents occur, they work on 3-4 24-hours shifts (36 - 48 hours straight). There are other roles of an Incident Responder. And hence, they get paid more.
