AWS trusted advisor vs Inspector

Now AWS has a plethora of services. While going through these services I came across the security services and got stuck at the AWS trusted advisor and inspector. Can someone throw more light on it?

As the name suggests Trusted Advisor will advise you about your AWS Account. Following are some of the concerning areas:

·         Cost Optimization

·         Fault Tolerance

·         Performance

·         Service Limits

·         Security

It will help you understand various problems you may with while using AWS.

Now lets try and understand the other term:

Amazon Inspector checks the configuration of EC2 instances. This is what the agent does:

·         Runs and checks operating system patches

Checks known vulnerabilities & common issues.

Trusted advisor provides advice about your AWS Account in the areas of:

  • Cost Optimization
  • Fault Tolerance
  • Performance
  • Service Limits
  • Security

Amazon Inspector checks the configuration of EC2 instances. An agent runs on EC2 instances and checks operating system patches, known vulnerabilities, and common issues.

Therefore, the difference is:

  • Trusted Advisor applies to the AWS account and AWS services

AWS Inspector leverages agents installed on EC2 instances and performs assessments against templates and reports results and violations.

AWS Advisor, on the other hand, works at a higher level and provide guidance to provision resources following AWS best practices.
