Linking to a specific part of a web page

How do I make a link to a section of a long webpage on another website that I don't own?

I thought you might be able to use a variation of the #partofpage at the end of my link. Any recommendations?

This is only possible if the website has declared anchors on the page. It is done by assigning a name or id to a tag, so look for any of those near where you want to link to.

The syntax would then be

<a href="page.html#anchor">text</a>
