pyc files in python

I see these .pyc files in the folder after executing my python scripts. What are these and what do they do? Can I delete them?

.pyc files contain the bytecode which are created by the python interpreter after execution. Deleting them won't cause any harm, but they will simply be recreated again when the program is run.
