What tools can be used to spin-up servers on AWS?

I just started learning AWS. I have a very basic doubt. What are the tools that I can use to spin-up servers on AWS cloud? Can I automate the entire process of spinning-up and spinning down of servers. Or do I have to do it manually?

Yes. There are a lot of tools to spin-up and spin-down servers according to your need on AWS cloud. First of all, you can write your own scripts and you AWS API tools. Such scripts could be written in bash, Perl or another language or your choice.

You can use configuration management tools like puppet or Chef opscode. You can also managed solution such as RightScale
