Why do i need ingress resouces

I've read in a lot of tutorials and documentations as well that we need ingress resources for our ingress controller to run, why is thta so?

Basically ingress controller routes according to the routing rules and these routing rules are mentioned in ingress resources. Hence ingress resources are needed as there would be no routing without rules.
