How to create a bar graph in Excel 2010 by counts

For whatever reason, I can't get this to function properly. I have a column of values that has a lot of A, B, C, and D grades.

I want to create a graph that displays the number of A, B, C, and D grades we have. I try to choose the values in the column (A2 to A(some big number)) for some reason after selecting Insert -> 3d Column graph, but it seems to be refusing to count anything. The bar graph itself only displays one flat category at level 0 and attempts to include all values in the title of the graph, such as "A B A C D A B..." and the legend. It has no use.

• Select Data
• Insert Pivot Chart
• Drag Value field to Row area and also to Data Area as Count of Value
