wasb://XXXXXXXXXX@XXXXX.blob.core.windows.net

is used to access blob storage through HDInsight whereas 

https://XXXXXXXXXX@XXXXX.blob.core.windows.net

 is used to access blobs through clients supporting HTTP protocol (web browsers etc.).
