Unable to remove index php from url magento On VPS hosting

Question

I use  VPS hosting. Under /var/www/html I created a virtual server , now I migrated my Magento site . After that when I try to make changes in the .htaccess  file to remove the index.php its not working. I enabled Mod_rewrite and it's  still not working.
any solutions ?

First, check Base Secure URL and Base Unsecure URL does not contain index.php 
For Example :
 http://www.example.com/  This should be how your base URL must look like instead of http://www.example.com/index.php/
Don't forget to check Web Server Rewrites is set to YES.
