Is it difficult to get government job after working in private sector

Is it difficult to get government job after working for 3+ years in private sector in IT Industry? What are the challenges one should be prepared for?

According to me its quite difficult. As after a point of time even though you have good skills and you do not meet the age and eligibility criteria you won't qualify for selection. If you do qualify the criteria then you can stand a chance to get the job. Hence, getting into government job after a period of time is pretty tough.

I generally feel getting a government job is too damn difficult. It has a lengthy process with many exams, testing your general knowledge, history, civics, etc. I have never really been good at those subjects and hence would just prefer to give aptitude and coding exams. If these are your strengths, consider the universe is with you.

Its never too late in your career, yes, there is an age criteria factor which really matters for government exams. But as you told you have 3 years of experience and I guess you are in the age group to apply in government firms. If you are dedicated towards Government sector, you need to be prepared for many things, the work culture, environment, everything will be different. Getting into Govt firm is not easy this day, so prepare well if you really want to switch to that field.
