You might have heard people wanting to invest in crypto-currencies, but did you know that a career in Blockchain technology is a more worthy investment? Even though there are resources explaining what Blockchain is, there are very few places that tell you how to learn Blockchain. In this article, rather than explaining what Blockchain is, I will be talking about how to learn Blockchain.

I will be covering the following topics:

“A high paying job is fine but I can get that in other technologies too, then why should I learn Blockchain?”

If you have got this question in your mind, then you are on the right path of learning. Blockchain, apart from just providing high paying jobs, is unique in its own way. So before I tell you how to learn Blockchain, I will tell you some advantages of Blockchain.

Advantages of Blockchain

Blockchain is called Disruptive Technology. A disruptive technology is something that has caused a drastic change in the industry, and not every Technology gets this title. In this section, I will tell you about the main advantages of Blockchain that made it one of the most Trending Technologies today.

Fraud-free

Blockchain is an open source ledger and it is public. Every transaction that happens is validated and verified by nodes which makes it almost impossible for Fraud.

No Central Authority

Blockchain has no Central Authority that controls the network. This prevents misuse of Centralized Control. Thinking how Blockchain works if there is no Control? Well, Blockchain has no Central Authority but it is user-controlled and driven by strict mechanisms which makes it Safe and Secure.

Cheap Transactions

A transaction in Blockchain is made between two parties and because there is no Central Authority, there is no need of paying high fees or charges. This makes Blockchain Transactions cheap.

Faster Transactions

The online transaction systems used these days are pretty fast. But Blockchain transactions are known to be 10 times faster.

Interesting isn’t it? Now that you are all hyped up about Blockchain, without further delay, I am going to tell you how to learn Blockchain.

How to learn Blockchain?

Learning a new Technology can be interesting and frustrating at the same time. Interesting because you are curious to explore and learn new concepts and frustrating because you don’t know where and how to start. You already seem pretty interested in Blockchain and to help you with the “frustration” part, let me tell you how you can learn Blockchain.

Learn the Basics

The first step to learn any new Technology and to make it a career is to know its basics. Blockchain is a vast sea and to become a good swimmer in this sea, you need to know the depth of the sea. But, you can not directly dive into the sea and reach the bottom of it. You need to start at the beach. And to become a Blockchain expert, basics is where you have to start. For example:

1. What is Blockchain?

Blockchain is a decentralized distributed database of immutable records. In simple words, Blockchain is a Chain of Blocks where each Block contains ledger records and is immutable. Immutable means it can not be changed or deleted.

2. What is Encryption? How is it important for Blockchain?

One of the most famous features of Blockchain is Data Security. Encryption is a method of securing data by converting it into meaningless data. This meaningless data can then be converted to meaningful data by the process of Decryption. Blockchain uses Encryption to secure sensitive data.

3. What can be stored on Blockchain?

There’s no restriction on what kind of data can be stored on the Blockchain. Any kind of digital data/ledger can be stored on the Blockchain.

There’s a whole list of Blockchain questions and answers to cover but that’s not what this blog is about. This blog is about how to learn Blockchain so let’s get back to it.

Done with basics? Let’s move forward.

Learn from resources

Basics are not enough to make a career in any Technology. Once done with the basics, it’s time to dive deeper into the sea. By “Resource”, I mean anything that gives you knowledge. It could be a Blog, a Book, Videos on YouTube, Online certification courses etc. These resources are important to learn any Technology. There are lots of resources out there which are more than good enough to get you a grip in Blockchain Technology.

Love the Documentation

I am one of those people who loves to learn new Technologies. And from my experience in learning these Technologies, I feel Documentations are your best Teachers. Though Documentations are kind of Sophisticated, Complex and too boring, when you get a grip in Blockchain Technology, blogs and videos will be of no use because you will have already known what’s there. Now, you have to learn from Documentation. So Love the Documentation!

Ask your questions

It’s common for any person to have doubts while learning something. And I am sure you will get a lot of doubts while learning Blockchain. Whenever you have a doubt, ask it. If you keep it within yourself, it will lead to further confusion. There are many communities that will help you solve your doubts.

There’s everyone’s favorite StackOverflow, Blockchain specific communities like Ethereum Community Forum, Hyperledger Community, and our very own edureka! Community.

Hands-on Practice

You won’t learn Blockchain Technology just by reading. You need to get some hands-on practice. Try implementing demos, tutorials from different resources. You will learn more while actually doing it than you will learn by just reading about Blockchain.

Build something

Doing demos are easy because all you have to is reproduce the steps. The true test is when you try to build something on your own. This is when you will know how much you have learned and what you should learn. There will be a lot of things that you don’t know how to implement and this is a phase where you will learn it. Keep building different things because everything you build will teach you something new.

This is how you can learn about Blockchain Technology.

Now that you know how to learn Blockchain, let me tell you the advantages of Blockchain Technology.

Future of Blockchain

The limitation of what you can create using Blockchain is just limited to your imaginations.

Blockchain-Applications-edureka

Blockchain can be used in various fields like Insurance, Identity Management, Real Estate, Copyright protection, Cross-border Payments, etc.

For your understanding, I will explain how Blockchain can be used for Digital Elections.

Blockchain-Voting-System-edureka

You might have heard about vote tamperings during elections. Exploiting a process that is responsible for building a country is a critical issue. This can be solved using Blockchain. You know that data in Blockchain is immutable. So, the votes cannot be changed. And due to faster transactions, the results will be available quicker. Due to strict mechanism and transparency, Digital Voting with Blockchain would eliminate double voting by a single person.

I have just spoken about one application of Blockchain. Think about how much better it would be when other fields also start adopting Blockchain Technology.

Well, folks, that’s all for this blog. Good luck with learning Blockchain!
