Different Cluster Modes

As discussed in our previous post on Apache Hadoop 2.0 and YARN, Apache Hadoop 2.0 is now stable and is Generally Available (GA).
We have seen how to configure a multimode Hadoop 1.0 cluster using the free tier AWS instances (Amazon ec2).

This blog post is about Hadoop 2.0: Setting up a Single Node Cluster in 15 Minutes.
One of most popular features in Hadoop 2.0 is YARN (Yet Another Resource Negotiator).

Hadoop 1.0 Vs Hadoop 2.0:

Hadoop 1, Hadoop 2

The complete process can be summarized in two simple steps:

Step 1: Setting up the Ubuntu OS for Hadoop 2.0
Prepare a CentOS machine for Hadoop 2.0 Installation, install JDK 7 or 8, setup the host.

Step 2: Installing Apache Hadoop 2.0 and Setting up the Single Node Hadoop Cluster
Edit the following Core Hadoop Configuration files to setup the cluster.

  • core-site.xml
  • hdfs-site.xml
  • yarn-site.xml
  • mapred-site.xml

Apache Hadoop 2.0, Single Node Hadoop Cluster

So, isn’t it easy to install Apache Hadoop 2.0 (YARN or MRv2) single node cluster on Ubuntu in just 15 minutes?

Now to start with the installation, go to our Hadoop Installation: Single Node Cluster blog which is a step by step guide to setup Hadoop 2.x on a Single Node Cluster.
